Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal now worth more than Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe as Frenkie de Jong’s value drops

Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal now worth more than Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe as Frenkie de Jong’s value drops

Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal may still only be 17 but his valuation has increased rapidly after a stellar 12 months for club and country.

Yamal has won Euro 2024 with Spain and established himself as one of the finest players in the world with Barcelona.
As such his valuation has now risen to an eye-popping €180m according to Transfermarkt’s latest figures. In contrast, Mbappe is worth a mere €160 million.

Yamal is not the only Barcelona player to have experienced a large jump in valuation. Pau Cubarsi is now valued at €70m, meaning he is among the 10 most valuable center-backs in the world at the tender age of 17.

Elsewhere, Pedri is now valued at €100m and Raphinha at €80m after a brilliant first half of the season for Barcelona where he’s played a starring role.
Yet just as there are ups there are also some downs. Barcelona players who have struggled with injuries recently have seen their market values drop.

Gavi’s value has dropped by €10m after a year out with an ACL injury, while Andreas Christensen has also suffered similarly after being sidelined with an Achilles problem.

Yet the two biggest losers in this regard are Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo. Both players have seen their market value drop by €15m but are both fit again and will be hoping to impress in 2025.

Internal Struggles in Philippine Futsal ahead of Hosting the First FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup

The Philippine women’s futsal team is at the heart of a storm, torn between years of grassroots development and mounting organizational chaos within the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).

As the country prepares to host the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup in November 2025, this historic opportunity is overshadowed by internal disarray, player resignations, and decisions that threaten the sport’s progress.

Over the past decade, Philippine futsal has grown from humble beginnings to a competitive discipline, thanks to tireless efforts from stakeholders like Gawad Kalinga, Tuloy, Tondo, Payatas, Azzurri, and the Moran Foundation. Initiatives such as Liga GK, Fairplay Futsal League, Liga Eskwela, and Metro Manila Futsal League have been instrumental in nurturing young talent and creating pathways to the national team.

The Moran Foundation, in particular, played a crucial role in elevating the sport by introducing Dutch coach Vic Hermans to the Philippines and establishing the High5 Futsal League—the premier competition for identifying national team players. Under Hermans, the team made steady progress, competing with determination against regional powerhouses.

The announcement of the Philippines as the host of the first FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup should have been a watershed moment. Instead, it has laid bare infighting within the PFF. While this honour brought global attention to Philippine futsal, it also seems to have ignited a struggle for control within the federation, leaving the sport vulnerable.

Alisson Becker lifts lid on Liverpool under Arne Slot and many differences to Jurgen Klopp era

Alisson Becker lifts lid on Liverpool under Arne Slot and many differences to Jurgen Klopp era

With 275 games behind him as Liverpool’s most expensive goalkeeper, Alisson Becker has a unique vantage point of the progress being made at Anfield A staple of the Jurgen Klopp era, the Brazilian has become something of a legend in his own time on Merseyside, with his £65m arrival from Roma in 2018 helping accelerate the charge for the game’s major honours.
Within a year, following his ground-breaking move from Roma, Alisson was a Champions League winner and he topped that in 2020 when he helped the Reds to a first league title for 30 years.

As a result, few would quibble about his status as the finest glovesman of the Premier League era for Liverpool and by the time he eventually walks away from the club, the 31-year-old will be able to hold his own in a conversation with iconic custodians like Bruce Grobbelaar and the late Ray Clemence, such has been the No.1’s impact.

Alisson is one of just a handful who remain from that period between 2019 and 2020 when Klopp’s Reds won the Champions League and Premier League and while a two-month absence with a hamstring injury was far from ideal this time out, the Brazil international has been ideally positioned to view how the Arne Slot era is shaping up.

For the man himself, it’s too early to be offering any firm comparisons between the two teams, but he admits something is beginning to stir as Liverpool prepare to enter 2025 as Premier League and Champions League leaders under new head coach Slot.

“Well, we have a few players that are playing here long enough, that experienced the highest peak of maybe the Jurgen Klopp era, if we can say that, and the lowest as well,” Alisson says. “So all these kinds of things you can use as a boost of energy, and we know we can see the quality that we have so that’s something that brings you energy and makes you put a lot of effort in to achieve good things, those players that they deserve.

“They work hard, they have quality, and we know that in the future we’re going to remember more about the good moments now that you had together in football. Winning is not everything, of course, but it’s a big part of football so I want to remember this team as a winning team.

Despite Alisson’s reluctance to compare and contrast with the group of players who lifted every top-level trophy under Klopp between those years of 2019 and 2022, Slot’s current crop visit West Ham United this weekend with a six-point lead at the summit of the Premier League and with a game in hand still to be played against Everton.

As a result, the Reds are being talked up as title favourites now for the second half of the campaign and, while the players are understandably still refusing to indulge themselves in such notions, performances like the 3-1 win over Leicester City on Boxing Day are only going to further such external debate.

Alisson adds: “It’s too soon to talk about the title, of course, but it’s our goal, it’s our target. At this point, we cannot just start to look at the points and see how it goes.

“We have to really focus on the next opponent that we have in front of us. That’s the mentality that we need and that is the mentality that we are having at the moment. We know how the Premier League can change so quickly in two games.

“Two games ago, maybe everybody was saying, looking to us at the table, Chelsea coming closer, all the teams coming closer, and now two games after we are in a better position. So everything changes so quickly here because of the quality of all the teams. So we have to be really focused on ourselves.

“As I said before, we have so many things to improve. During the season, you have to become a champion not only in one game or only for what we did at this halfway point. I think if at the beginning of the season we looked to this point now and are told the numbers, the amount of points that we have, the place we are, we would sign it off immediately. We are happy about our position, but still the best side of it is still that we can improve in some aspects.

“That means that we can become a better team when we play, be more solid, more consistent. Defensive-wise mainly, we are creating a lot, we are playing so well. So we have to look to the good sides as well and be happy for what we’ve been doing so far.

“I think when Arne joined the club, everybody thought it would be hard work for him to replace a manager like Jurgen. But he’s showing his qualities and he brings us a lot of good things.

“I think it’s not only one key, but many things that are helping us to achieve our goals. I want to highlight the commitment of this team, of the players, to do what the manager asks, to go every day and train hard and having the desire to improve as well, to be a better team and the desire of winning big things for this club. So that will always be an important point for a team that wants to be a winner.”

Andre Onana told ‘it’s pointless to continue’ at Man Utd by Old Trafford flop.

Andre Onana told ‘it’s pointless to continue’ at Man Utd by Old Trafford flop.

Massimo Taibi – the man responsible for one of Manchester United’s most infamous goalkeeping blunders – has told Andre Onana to up and leave Old Trafford.

The current No 1 has endured a mixed time since making the move to the Premier League 18 months ago. He was signed by Erik ten Hag as he looked to develop his style, but other parts of Onana’s game have regularly been called into question.

The ex-Inter Milan man was beaten direct from a corner on Boxing Day as Wolves secured a win over the Manchester outfit. Onana’s error count is too high for a club who have ambitions to win trophies and Taibi believes he might be better off making a move away.

The irony being that Taibi, signed as United sought a successor for Peter Schmeichel, made one of the most glaring mishaps when he first moved to Manchester, allowing a long range striker from Matt Le Tissier to go straight through him which cost United. That though hasn’t stopped him giving his opinion.

He told The Sun: “I’d be straight to the point and tell him, ‘Andre, you are one of the best keepers in Europe but in the Premier League, you are under-performing. Block out criticism, do some soul-searching, press the reset and go again. And if things don’t change by June, move on’.
“I think subconsciously the United environment isn’t ideal for him and when a marriage is showing cracks, it’s pointless to continue. Sometimes things don’t work out at a team and it’s best to go separate ways, which would not be a failure.

“For me he’s a strong goalkeeper who finds himself in a situation where he can’t show his skills because he is not cut out for the English game. He’s only suited to the Prem when it comes to his ball-playing ability and structure.”

Onana previously played for Ajax when they made the semi-final of the Champions League in 2019. Four years later and he was part of the Inter outfit who made the Champions League final and Taibi believes his attributes are suited to playing in Italy or France.

“In his place I’d not have left Inter, where he was a big-shot,” said Taibi. “He made a calculated risk thinking he would slot in seamlessly at Manchester United but it backfired. But even though he hasn’t lived up to expectations he remains a top keeper, one of the best in Europe.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold could sign for Real Madrid in summer 2025

Trent Alexander-Arnold could sign for Real Madrid in summer 2025

Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly made a 2025 transfer decision as contract talks continue at Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold is out of contract at the Premier League giants at the end of the current season with negotiations on an extension ongoing.

Despite Arne Slot’s confidence on retaining the defender, the England star has two choices, sign a five-year renewal on Merseyside, or accept a fresh challenge at Real Madrid.

Mixed reports from Spain and the UK has complicated the picture, but an exclusive update from Marca claims Alexander-Arnold has decided on Madrid, following a bold revelation.

The report states the 26-year-old has finally made up his mind, and he informed club directors of his intentions, following the latest round of talks.

Liverpool did not want to reach January without a decision from their No.66, but they may not offer an official update until further into 2025, unless there is another U-turn.

Real Madrid have looked to remain on the sidelines, to allow the defender to make his own move, but optimism is high over an agreement being very close to completion.

Is Ruben Amorim about to bin Andre Onana?! Man Utd eye January move for Belgium U21 goalkeeper Senne Lammens but face battle with Borussia Dortmund for youngster

Is Ruben Amorim about to bin Andre Onana?! Man Utd eye January move for Belgium U21 goalkeeper Senne Lammens but face battle with Borussia Dortmund for youngster

Manchester United are monitoring Belgium Under-21s goalkeeper Senne Lammens as Ruben Amorim assesses his options between the sticks.

Manchester United are scouting Belgium Under-21s goalkeeper Senne Lammens as a potential replacement for Andre Onana. Reports from The Telegraph suggest signing a new stopper is not a priority for Ruben Amorim in January but those who have watched the Royal Antwerp keeper have been impressed with his performances. United are not the only club interested in Lammens, with other European giants also monitoring the 22-year-old’s situation.

Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is spending a lot of time assessing his best options in every position, including in the goalkeeper department. Onana was brought to suit Erik ten Hag’s system but under the new head coach, there may be a change in approach when it comes to playing out from the back. He was also at fault for a Wolves goal scored directly from a corner on Boxing Day, not his first howler in a United shirt.

Lammens has conceded just 21 goals in 20 Belgian Pro League appearances this term. The young prospect has also kept five clean sheets as Antwerp sit fourth in the table.

There is no guarantee that United move for Lammens in January, particularly with reports suggesting there are limited funds for Amorim to play with this winter. Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund and Championship leaders Leeds are also monitoring the goalkeeper.

Cristiano Ronaldo the Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1, backs Vini Jr for Ballon d’Or over Rodri

Cristiano Ronaldo the Saudi Pro League is better than Ligue 1, backs Vini Jr for Ballon d’Or over Rodri

On Friday, the Globe Soccer Awards took place in Dubai where Cristiano Ronaldo collected the award for the best Middle East player thanks to his scoring feats at Al-Nassr. This season, the 39-year-old has 16 goals and three assists in 19 appearances in all competitions. During the award ceremony, the Portuguese forward had a lot say. He made a strong statement about French soccer while also asserting that Vinicius Junior should’ve won the Ballon d’Or instead of Rodri.

Ronaldo weighs in on the Ballon d’Or

The Ballon d’Or was a controversial award ceremony with Real Madrid not sending players to Paris where they took place. Initially it seemed like Vini Jr. was going to be the favorite to win, but closer to the awards, it emerged that it would be Rodri after winning the Premier League with Manchester City and the European Championship with Spain.

“In my opinion, he [Vini Jr.] deserved to win the golden ball [Ballon d’Or] it was unfair in my opinion. I say here in front of everybody,” Ronaldo said at the Globe Soccer Awards. “They give it to Rodri, he deserved it too, but they should’ve given it to Vinicius because he won the Champions League and scored in the final.”

After receiving the Globe Soccer awards for best player and best striker, Vini Jr. had a response to Ronaldo as well, although it was more subdued in nature.

“If Cristiano that’s what says, then I will choose to believe that I am the best,” Vini Jr. said. “He is my idol, along with Neymar. And it is an honor for me to receive the award in front of them.”

A Real Madrid legend himself, it makes sense that Ronaldo would stick up for Vini Jr.’s case but when it came to French soccer, that’s where Ronaldo made some waves insisting that the Saudi League is better than the French league.
“The Saudi League is better than Ligue 1, of course,” Ronaldo said. “France only has Paris Saint-Germain. The rest are finished.”

While it can be tough to compare league strength and Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr won’t be taking part in the Club World Cup in 2025 where they’d get a chance to go against some of the worlds’ best teams to put that statement to the test, French sides are flying high in Champions League play this season.

Lille knocked off Real Madrid at home behind a Jonathan David penalty and every French side but PSG would advance out of the league phase of the tournament as things stand. Brest sits sixth in the table in their inaugural Champions League campaign while Lille is in the top eight followed by Monaco in 16th. Depending on how things shake out, PSG in 24th could be in trouble as they’ve struggled to adapt following the departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. That doesn’t seem close to a finished league.

Spanish Football Federation open talks with Luis De La Fuente

Spanish Football Federation open talks with Luis De La Fuente

Over the last six months, there has been a lot of speculation about Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente and his contract situation. His current deal runs until the end of the 2026 World Cup, but he has been demanding a significant pay increase on the back of leading La Roja to success in the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League and Euro 2024.

His current annual salary is €1m, although he wants €3m. The Spanish Football Federation are prepared to get closer to his demands, and as per Diario AS, they have offered him a new deal that would see him earn €2m per year.

The Federation’s new president, Rafael Louzan, met with de la Fuente’s representatives on Thursday, and both parties seem keen to wrap up negotiations. It does make a lot of sense for them to ensure that the 63-year-old stays up given how well he has been doing since being appointed by Spain.

Leeds claim top spot after victory over Championship strugglers Stoke

LEEDS MOVED TO the top of the English Championship as Joel Piroe’s double sealed a 2-0 win at struggling Stoke on Thursday.
Piroe netted either side of half-time to move Leeds above Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, who were beaten by fellow promotion chasers Burnley earlier in the day.

Daniel Farke’s side sit at the summit on goal difference after a seventh victory in their last nine games and just their second in their last eight away matches.

Third-placed Burnley’s 2-0 win at Bramall Lane was a boost to both their promotion credentials and those of Leeds.

Josh Brownhill headed the Clarets in front from a Bashir Humphreys cross just before half-time and Zian Flemming’s deflected effort secured the points for Scott Parker’s in-form side.

Fourth-placed Sunderland’s hopes of maintaining the pressure on the sides above them were hit by a last-gasp equaliser by Harry Leonard for Blackburn at Ewood Park.

Two swift second-half goals from Chris Rigg and Wilson Isidor had wiped out Yuki Ohashi’s early opener and looked set to win it for Sunderland until Leonard fired home in the 90th minute.
Sheffield Wednesday surged back from a 3-0 half-time deficit to snatch a point in a 3-3 draw with 10-man Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

A Finn Azaz double and Ben Doak’s opener seemed to have put Middlesbrough in control.
But second-half strikes from Svante Ingelsson, Josh Windass and Yan Valery sealed Wednesday’s comeback as the hosts had Rav van den Berg sent off.

Frank Lampard got one over his old England team-mate Wayne Rooney as rock-bottom Plymouth were thumped 4-0 at Coventry.

Gary Rowett got his reign as Oxford boss off to a bright start as goals from Mark Harris, Ciaron Brown and Przemyslaw Placheta saw them cling on for a 3-2 win over Cardiff.

Rocco Vata scored deep into stoppage-time to claim a 2-1 win for Watford against Portsmouth at Vicarage Road.

Liam Cullen’s double sent Swansea to a 3-0 win over QPR and first-half goals from Emiliano Marcondes and Oscar Schwartau were enough for Norwich to beat Millwall 2-1 at Carrow Road.
Brad Potts scored in Preston’s 1-0 win over Hull and Scott Twine netted for Bristol City in their 1-0 victory against Luton.

Ruben Amorim frustrated with referee as familiar Manchester United problem returns in Wolves defeat

Ruben Amorim felt goalkeeper Andre Onana was unfairly impeded as he conceded a direct corner to Matheus Cunha in Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat at Wolves.

United slumped to 14th in the Premier League table as they were beaten on Boxing Day in a match that saw Bruno Fernandes sent off 88 seconds into the second half, picking up his third red card of the season already.

Cunha scored the opening goal from direct from a corner, but Onana felt he was having his arm impeded by Matt Doherty.

The Red Devils conceded a similar goal a week ago when Altay Bayindir also felt he was obstructed when reaching for the ball as Son Heung-min scored for a direct corner on the way to a 4-3 win for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

“Yes, against Tottenham it’s the same,” Amorim recalled. “Onana cannot go to the ball I think.”

Asked whether he thought Doherty had fouled Onana, Amorim replied: “I think he cannot go to the ball. He’s trying to reach the ball and some guys are not even looking at the ball.

“But I don’t want to focus on that. I think the good thing is we were near the goal, even with 10 men. That is a good thing, but we lost.

“Of course, when you lose, when we don’t win, it’s a step back. It was really hard with the sending off. The goal was similar against Tottenham. Then, we tried.

“Even with one less guy, we tried to. I think we were near something, but then Wolves scored the second one. Then, in the end, we tried everything and the transition was 2-0. For us, let’s continue.”

Amorim admitted Fernandes had made things harder, as he picked up a yellow card almost immediately after the restart.

“It’s so tough to win games in this league with 11 men,” he said. “With 10 men, it’s more difficult. We have to focus on that.

“We lack a little bit of aggression. The sending off was really hard for us.”

Asked why Marcus Rashford was left out for a fourth straight game, Amorim said: “It’s always the same reason it’s going to be. We have to be the same professionals, the same guys, winning or losing. Losing, I have to be stronger. I will continue with my idea until the end.

Pep Guardiola admits Man City ‘have to add players’ in January with struggling champions looking to bolster defence and midfield

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Man City plan to be active in the January transfer window.
City host Everton in Boxing Day’s early kick-off and come into the game on a run of just one win in 12 matches.

The reigning champions have looked a shadow of their former selves, beset by injury problems and an ageing squad.

The loss of Ballon d’Or winner Rodri to a likely season-ending ACL rupture is something the team have shown no signs of recovering from and Guardiola accepts they need reinforcements.
Speaking to Amazon Prime Video Sport ahead of Thursday’s game, he said: ‘we have to, if we can, we have to add players definitely.
‘We struggle, especially in the back, in the middle. Saying that, i don’t know it’s going to happen.
